Hardwood Floor Design Inlays & Insets

Hardwood designs are used in a variety of areas and spaces today. Have a design idea and wish to have it custom made? We can do that. Pictured to the immediate right is a custom artistic design for a client in Bonita Bay. Further right is a design we had custom made for our showroom.

How & When Are They Installed?

Designs are best to have installed when the hardwood floor is done. For circular or oval type designs the floor is installed first.  A template is then used as a guide to cut out the area where the design will be inserted. It's sometimes easier to have geometric designs installed first then the flooring is installed "off" the design. Our illustration to the left shows an existing floor with the Compass Versace medallion installed.

Can We Have This On Concrete?

Installation on concrete with engineered hardwoods can be done, but requires skill and knowledge. Inserting medallions into existing gluedown floors on concrete subfloors is possible. However, extensive work may be involved, depending on how well the original floor was installed. For hardwoods that have been glued to wood subfloors inserting designs is unlikely.

Designs Come Unfinished Or Prefinished

Most designs are sold unfinished while some are available prefinished in any thickness over 3/8" suitable for the many engineered floors available today. Our Mediterranean border,  also shown on the right, is a prefinished 1/2" design installed into a red oak engineered floor. It was chosen to accent a stone hearth.

I See A Lot Of Colors. Are They Stained?

Mother nature has given us oodles of colors to work with. All the designs we offer are natural colored hardwoods from across  the globe. Looking for unique hardwoods? Here's a medallion picture with Birdseye Maple, Bubinga, and other unusual hardwoods.

If you have a stained colored floor, medallions or borders can also be stained to match. Staining is generally done on site after the installation for a site finished floor. Designs do not come pre-stained.

Stone Medallions Can Be Used With Hardwood?

With the popularity of multi media (hardwood, stone, or tile combined) floor installations, our stone medallion or stone border selections can be used in any combination. Moreover, if you are entertaining the idea of using stone in other areas of your home, our  collections can be used as well.
